Forming & Translating Infinitives

Forming/Translating (e.g., amo, amare, amavi, amatum):

present active - 2nd prin part                      amare = to love


present passive - 2nd pp, change “e” to “i”           amari = to be loved
(exception: 3rd conj drop “-ere” add “-i”     
e.g, mittere becomes mitti)


perfect active - add “-sse” to 3rd principle part amavisse = to have loved


perfect passive - combine infinitive esse
with 4th pp amatum esse = to have been loved


future active - add “-ur-” before the ending
of 4th principle part amaturum esse = to be about to loved
